Modernising Aylsham Windmill's Website Without Changing What Already Worked
Janet got in touch because she felt her website was ready for an update.
The existing site had served the business well, but it was beginning to feel dated (the website was over 20+ years old!) and no longer reflected the quality of the accommodation itself. At the same time, there were parts of the business already working perfectly well, particularly the booking system, and there was no need to replace them.
The goal wasn't to start from scratch. It was to create a more modern website while keeping the parts of the business that were already doing their job.
The project focused on improving the overall look and feel of the website, simplifying the navigation and creating a better experience across both desktop and mobile devices.
Existing content and imagery were reused wherever possible, helping to keep the process straightforward and avoid unnecessary work. The existing booking system remained in place, meaning guests could continue booking exactly as before.
Once the website was complete, I also created a series of training videos so Janet could confidently make updates herself going forward.
The result is a cleaner, easier-to-manage website that feels much more in keeping with the accommodation and the experience guests can expect when they stay.
Most importantly, the project achieved exactly what was needed without adding unnecessary complexity. The booking system stayed in place, the hosting remained unchanged and Janet was left with a website she feels confident managing herself.
